Mujer-Eres: Raices
"Mujer-Eres: Raices" held its opening reception on March 8, 2025, and was on display at the San Benito Cultural Center from March 8 to May 31.
The City of San Benito’s Cultural Arts Department (CAD) is thrilled to welcome Mujer-Eres back to San Benito with their 10th Annual group exhibition Mujer-Eres. The exhibition will be displayed at the San Benito Cultural Center and marks the return of Mujer-Eres to their inaugural exhibition location in 2015.
The annual Mujer-Eres group exhibition made its premiere at the then Narciso Martinez Cultural Arts Center in March of 2015 and was originally co-curated by University of Texas at Brownsville art students Sam Rawls and Melissa Vega. After a two-year hiatus, the show returned in March of 2022 and was exhibited at in Brownsville, TX; now, in its 10th year, Mujer-Eres will be back in San Benito at the San Benito Cultural Center — the revitalized location of the Narciso Martinez Cultural Arts Center — and organized by artists Sam Rawls and Cecilia Sierra.
Mujer-Eres: Raíces is a juried contemporary art group exhibition that showcases the diverse talent of women artists in the region. This year’s exhibit was juried and curated by Aleida Garcia, Cultural Arts Director for the City of San Benito, and Joaquin Castillo, Museum Coordinator for the City of San Benito. The exhibition provides an accessible platform for artistic expression, motivation, and the creation of an authentic self. Mujer-Eres’s mission of providing accessible, educational programming and engaging with the community of the greater Rio Grande Valley is shared with the San Benito CAD.
