San Benito Fire Department

In 1936, the Citizens of San Benito united to form the San Benito Volunteer Fire Department in order to protect the rapidly growing City and its population. By the 1990s, it became evident that a Volunteer Department was no longer adequate to provide protection to the approximately 20,000 citizens, their homes, and businesses; and made the transition to a Career Fire Department.

The City of San Benito currently has a population of approximately 25,000 people with a population growth of 4.5% per year. The charming little City has a beautiful Resaca running through the middle of approximately 11 square miles of land with a population density of about 2,200 citizens per square mile.

The San Benito Fire Department is currently comprised of 26 dedicated Fire Fighters and Emergency Medical Technicians distributed between 3 Shifts and 2 Fire Stations. These Fire Fighters are armed with 4 Engines, 1 Ladder Truck, 1 Water Tanker, 3 Brush Trucks, and a fire boat ready to immediately respond to any emergency its Citizens may have.

The San Benito Fire Department responds to approximately 2,500 Fire Calls per year. This includes Building Fires, Automobile Accidents, Hazardous Materials Incidents, Grass/Brush Fires, Emergency Medical Services, and other emergencies. The Fire Department also responds to a number of Non-Emergency Calls such as; Animal Rescues, Electrical Poles/Lines Down, Natural Gas Leaks/Smell of Gas, Elderly Assistance, and pretty much anytime a citizen has a question or concern. We also have Fire Inspectors that perform Fire Safety Inspections on local businesses and Schools in order to ensure that our Citizens can work and visit these locations in relative safety. The Fire Department also participates in Fire Prevention Week, Fire Safety Presentations, and are geared toward educating the general public in Fire Safety. We also attend Career Day presentations throughout the year at local schools.

The San Benito Fire Department has a longstanding and proud history of Commitment, Dedication, and Service. We strive to continue to meet the growing needs of our Community and look forward to the privilege of serving you.
