Summer Reading Program Presentation
11 a.m.-noon at San Benito Public Library, 101 W. Rose St.
San Benito Public Library hosts the Summer Reading Program with the theme, The Reading Express during the month of June. All reading log participants must have a valid library card, prizes available while supply lasts. Program features, T-Rex Reptile Show.

June 9
"El Second Weensdee"
7 p.m. at the Narciso Martinez Cultural Arts Center at 225 E. Stenger
An oral history series that preserves a local cultural treasure, conjunto music. The monthly event takes place the second Wednesday of every month. Free. For more information call 956-399-0110.

June 11

San Benito Public Library hosts the Summer Reading Program with the theme, The Reading Express during the month of June. All reading log participants must have a valid library card, prizes available while supply lasts. Program features, Laguna Atascosa National Wildlife Refuge and Roger M. Mason.

June 12
San Benito Historical Society Book Signing Event
Location TBA on South Padre Island.
Representatives of the San Benito Historical Society will on hand to autograph copies of the just-released edition of San Benito’s Pictorial History Book. Books will be available for purchase. For more information, please call Tootie Madden at 399-6032.

June 14
Flag Day
Time and location TBA
The San Benito Elks Lodge will lead a Flag Raising Ceremony. Event is free and open to the public.

June 18
Summer Movie Nights
6:30 p.m. at the W.H. Heavin Amphitheater, 705 Rose Street.
Valley International Christian Center will host a free movie series for the public. Movies start at dusk (about 8:30 p.m.) Event is free and open to the public.

June 18

Market Day & Farmer’s Market
9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Plaza de San Benito, 210 E. Heywood
Enjoy live music, arts and crafts at this open-air bazaar. Festivities include live entertainment and performances by local student choirs, bands, and other musical groups. Enjoy taste-tempting treats at food booths and handmade items at bargain prices. Local farmers offer produce for sale. Free. Sponsored by San Benito Chamber of Commerce.

June 19
Free Movies at the Park
Sundown at W.H. Heavin Amphitheater, 705 N. Travis
Monthly movie nights are scheduled at the W.H. Heavin Amphitheater beginning May 22. Sponsored by Borderland Calvary Chapel, the movies will be family-themed and suitable for children and adults alike. The public is invited to attend the showings free of charge at the amphitheater, located at 705 North Bowie Street. Showtime begins at sunset. Adult supervision of young children is required. Dates scheduled include May 22, June 19, July 17, Aug. 21, Sept. 18, Oct. 16, Nov. 20 and Dec. 18. Free hot dogs and drinks will be offered at the monthly events.

June 19
Kids Fishing Camp
A free fishing camp for children accompanied by a parent is scheduled at a site TBA. Hosted by Fishing’s Future—More Than Just a Sport.
Participants will learn the basics of fishing.  Basic skills taught will be: Boat and water safety, State Fish & Game rules and regulations, fish identification, fish measurement, catch & release techniques, fishing knots, difference between casting/spinning/spincast rods and reels, top water techniques, sub surface techniques, bobber/cork techniques, different baits for each technique will be presented and discussed, live bait techniques, the mechanics of the casting strokes and the importance of “Leave-no-Trace”.  Each KID’S FISH CAMP will incorporate a snack/lunch followed by a 30 minute litter and trash pick-up.  Upon completion of the trash collection, every child will be issued a rod and reel (age appropriate) and they will be provided an opportunity to fish utilizing their newly acquired skills.  KID’S FISH CAMP will be held in locations where there is a safe pond, lake, pier or bank access to facilitate this part of the KID’S FISH CAMP.  Kids will be awarded a Fishing’s Future Jr. Angler Certificates along with a KID’S FISH CAMP Jr. Angler Captain’s bag stuffed full of an assortment of baits and goodies.  For more information, please call the San Benito Chamber of Commerce at 956-399-5321.

June 25
Summer Reading Program Presentation

June 26
Kids Fishing Tournament
26 at 4 p.m. Headquarters/ Weigh-in Station at Kennedy Park, 400 Freddy Fender Lane. Children, ages 4-15, are encouraged to cast a line along the Resaca bank to catch catfish and other freshwater varieties. Parents must accompany children. Final weigh-in is at 11:30 a.m. Awards will be issued at 12 noon. Prizes will be awarded for age groups in the 4-8 year old category; 9-12 year old category; and the 13-15 year old category. July 9

Intensive Pre GED Classes, Mondays through Thursdays, 8 a.m.-12 noon.
English as a Second Language, Mondays through Thursdays from 12:30-3 p.m.
Story Time for local children, 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.
